Art/Equality
Talk about synchronicity..... i've restarted the Artist's Way, i'm in my graduating semester at school, and my heart is pulsating more and more for the marriage of justice/equality and art. it's no coincidence when our dreams start shaping into a tangible reality. I remember just over 4 years ago, when i was leaving Ywam Australia, i attended a conference on missions. I have always had missional thinking, but i didn't seem to fit into the box of traditional christian missions. I was listening to an african man speaking about his work among the AIDS victims in his country, and while he was speaking i was dreaming of taking pictures one day that would inspire people to think differently about one another. to take equality of humanity seriously. to see the beauty and spirit of each person, each culture. i don't think it was a concidence that i was dreaming about this as he was speaking, there is something in the spirit of humanity that is triggered and moved by beauty.
Recently i came across this speech that Bono gave over a year ago at an international prayer breakfast, what a bold heart for justice, a strong belief that we can make a difference. It's worth a listen. and then i came across the work of Chaz Maviyane Davies, a graffic designer who uses his creativity to combat corruption. and then, i found the photomovement site ' changing the world one photograph at a time '. This is nothing new...... there's Born into Brothels, Kids with cameras, Artists striving to end poverty..... but it just seems to be looming bigger in my mind and heart as i near graduation.
Anyone wondering how a photographer might make a difference through their beliefs take a look at these 3 links, get back to me, i would love to hear everyone's comments.
Dream big.
