Is it Magic?
Last night we saw Amiina perform for the second time, at Le Nationale.( See photos on Sam's blog). From the moment I walked in under the old theatre lights, on the creaky wood floor and into a room stuffed with folding seats and velvet curtains I knew I was in for another treat. The ambient music set the tone, creativity shivered and hovered in the air. These four icelandic women are truly a delight to watch. Again, they started on their strings ( electric cello and viols ) and after putting these on reverb moved on to other various instruments including saws and wine glasses. Again, it was like gazing into their living room, sneaking a peak at four girls in the process of creating. They have the rare gift of being creative and remaining untainted by where their creativity brings them. They are still innocent, are they angels? Or are they the faierie folk that Icelandic people still believe exist ( what were they called again Dave? )..... oh. it makes me long just to create. to make beautiful things that will bring people joy and delight. I hope that one day my artistic attempts can be this pure, and bring this much delight, inspire this much creativity in others.

Huldufolk! According to a 1980s National Geographic that we used to have in our stack, more than 50% (I think it was 53 or 55) of Iceland's population believes in them. A member of parliament (or equivalent) claims to have been rescued while hanging off a cliff by a Huldufolk person.
