Photos. moments pinned down for a fleeting second by the tip of the shutter. stored in a cavern of memory. for no one but you. and i.

no one ever told me that photography was 75% mathematics, 25% everything else. At least that's how it seems when you are studying it. Gone are the days when you could buy a disposable camera and take random, spontaneous pictures of everything beautiful you happen to notice. oh no. now you must put aside 1-2 hours for "planning out", pull out the 5 pieces of equipment and spend another 1-2 hours setting up lighting and calculating lighting ratios, patterns, distance from subject, etc.etc. what is the inverse sqare law anyways? and what does that have to do with picture taking? Ah- but for those moments, for that 25% when it all 'clicks', your lighting is phenomenal, your are taking wonderful images- those moments of inspiration, spontenaity and creativity. it is worth it. i'm beginning to see the cycle. from the naive, but extremely creative beginning, through the intensely technical slog learning, to the emergence from the tunnel. Hey, i kind-of know what i'm doing!! i can begin to actually control my lighting and predict the way something is going to look, and now, with all this information stowed away somewhere in my subconcience, now i can, again, be freely creative.

now i can at last wander the earth with only my camera, my eyes, and my heart, capturing moments of life. and if i run into any technical problems, i will know how to solve them! Hooray for school!
